It is important to note that there has been very little medical research into the efficacy of massage on fertility (one study in 2015 did indicate positive results on implantation). While I have personally worked with many couples who have successfully conceived both naturally and IUI/IVF, it would be unethical of me to cite any success statistics.
That being said, there is quite a bit of research which shows points to the relationship between stress and fertility and the reproductive system in both men and women. Men may experience lower serum total testosterone levels, and women can have higher levels of a stress hormone called cortisol, which inhibits estradiol (estrogen) production. If you’re dealing with fertility issues, there’s a good chance you’re also operating at a high stress level.
What Makes Fertility Massage Special?
The goal of fertility massage is to support your body and create an environment where your baby will grow. There are many muscular and ligament restrictions that can be released with fertility massage. It consists of relaxation massage utilizing a special essential oil blend, coupled with full abdominal work, pelvic work, warm castor oil packs and a femoral artery block and release to assist with blood flow into the uterus.
I Have Been Trying to Conceive, Would this Help Me Get Pregnant Sooner?
That’s the goal! The fertility massage will help your womb be healthy and ready to grow a baby. Also, the journey to your baby can be very stressful. It’s at this crucial time that a woman needs to partner with a sensitive and competent massage practitioner that can provide education, patience, and a whole lot of nurturing.
When Can I Do the Fertility Massage?
The short answer is after your period ends up until ovulation; however in our Shared Journey protocol, we work for six consecutive weeks without regard to your cycle. This protocol includes those six sessions, plus twelve monthly sessions. The monthly sessions would be times from when your period ends and before ovulation.
How Many Sessions Are Required for a Fertility Massage?
The Shared Journey protocol is a total of eighteen sessions; six weekly followed by twelve monthly sessions.
For those who have already made the decision to utilize IUI or IVF, we recommend a minimum of six sessions which are timed to correspond to your program. Some women may suffer repeated disappointment with each in vitro fertilization office visit resulting in insecurity and psychological pain. This can cause immense strain in a marriage or any relationship where the couple is striving to expand their family. As always, I wish for each woman that desires to be a mother to realize this dream. It is my honor and privilege to work with those that have chosen this path. I have been blessed to have seen the result of massage therapy combined with IVF and IUI treatments. I respect the combination of conventional medicine coupled with natural therapies. For those of you that didn’t know this type of massage was offered, now you know!
